Master Bison (Vega in Japan) is one of the main villains of the Street Fighter series of fighting games.

Biography

The leader of Shadaloo, he has crossed paths with Ryu and his acquaintances numerous times in fierce battles. He utilizes Psycho Power, which is fueled by hatred and evil, and has sent many innocent people to an early demise. As a fighter he possesses overwhelming power and ability, and is often called a devil in disguise. In his quest for world conquest, he heads to the South Pole in search of Pandora and its potential power.

Appearance

Bison wears a red military uniform with large silver shoulder plates, wrist bands, and shin guards; on his peaked/service cap is the skull insignia of his crime syndicate known as Shadaloo. His clothing highly resembles the uniforms worn by SS officers of Nazi Germany, the winged skull on his visor cap and the first letter of Shadaloo on his belt is shaped as a single sig rune. Bison's eyes lack both pupils and irises, leaving them a ghastly white color. He often wears a dark colored cape when he’s not fighting.

Personality

M. Bison is an archetypical villain who is motivated by his own selfish interest and lust for power. He is a ruthless, callous, and an unforgiving dictator with no hesitations for destroying anyone or anything who opposes him. He shows a complimenting side, however, when he states to Karin Kanzuki that he watched her fight with Sakura, and that they fight very well for young girls, and after she defeats the dolls, that Karin did well and is a qualified fighter. While demanding absolute loyalty and obedience from his subordinates, Bison considers them to be nothing more but pawns as opposed to considering them to be human beings, and tolerates his henchmen only as long as they serve his dark ambitions: he decides to exterminate Cammy and the Dolls for becoming useless to his evil plans in the Street Fighter Alpha series and tries to eliminate Seth for usurping him in the Street Fighter IV series. He is not above trying to use coercion by force and brainwashing to convert skilled martial artists to his cause. Bison shows no compassion or mercy towards people and children, considering them to be insignificant and pitiful wretches not worth living.

As the C.E.O of Shadaloo, he is prepared to gain power and wealth using all possible criminal activities, ranging from drug trafficking and arms dealing to terrorism and illegal human experimentation. Bison is supremely arrogant and narcissistic with an ego that rivals or may even surpass that of Vega and a penchant for fancying himself as a god. He has nothing but contempt for his opponents and considering himself the superior fighter for mastering Psycho Power.

Unlike most of the other villains like Gill or Akuma, Bison is in tormenting others, exploiting and ultimately oppressing other people for his own selfish urges. Unsurprisingly, he has earned the hatred from many other Street Fighter charters such as Chun-Li, Guile Guy, Cammy, Rose, T. Hawk and many others for his malevolent and sinister nature. Having banished all of the goodness in his soul to control Psycho Power, he possesses a dark and irredeemable spirit. He does display a twisted sense of humor, which not to mentioning his characteristic "business before pleasure" attitude, makes him quite a unique and effective villain in the series, he has no regard for the suffering and damages he causes to others, and that they don't stand a chance against him.

Trivia

  • He was inspired by Washizaki, a villain from the manga and anime Riki-Oh; and Yasunori Kato, the antagonist from the fantasy film, Tokyo: The Last Megalopolis.
  • In this game, M. Bison constantly references his lines from the infamous Street Fighter live action movie, as well as the equally infamous american cartoon:
    • Bison's taunt: "For me, it was a Tuesday". Curiously, this game literally was released on a Tuesday.
    • Bison vs. Blanka: "I have done many things, but I'm certainly not responsible for creating something as ridiculous as you."
    • Bison vs. Chun-Li: "All you women ever do is whine! I killed my father too, and you don't see me crying about it!"
    • Bison vs. Guile: "What's the matter, Guile? Came here expecting to fight a mere mortal? Bison is far beyond you!"
    • Bison vs. Hugo: "Bwa ha ha ha! I can hear the sound of your bones breaking! Yes! This is delicious!"
